The Learn to Skate Program has been designed for skaters from 4 years of age and all ability levels. Our program and classes encourage students to progress at their own pace. The program aims to teach the fundamentals for ice skating before you move into your preferred ice sport, whether that be Ice Hockey, Speed Skating or Figure Skating.

Macquarie Ice Rink’s Learn to Skate Program aims to provide a pathway to ice sports, while giving you the confidence and skillset to become long term active participants through a structured program that allows you to progress at your own pace. We follow the nationally accredited Aussie Skate™ program, an initiative of Ice Skating Australia; a fun, challenging and rewarding program for all ages and abilities.

We recommend that all patron wear helmets, wrist, knee and elbow guards while participating in the classes, practice and/or public sessions.

FAQ’s

  • All first time enrolments will be put into Aussie Skate 1 if you are over the age of 7 years.

For first time enrolments ages 4-6 years, you will be put into Tots 1 class.

  • The final week of classes, you will be assessed by your coach(es) to determine if you would benefit from remaining in your current level or if you should move to the next level in the program.

As all students learn at a different rate and may have different circumstances as to how often they are able to practice, it is not guaranteed that a student will move into a new level each term.

  • Most rinks in Australia follow the same Nationally Accredited Aussie Skate Program that the Macquarie Ice Rink also uses.

If you know what level you last participated in, you will be able to select that from the booking list, subject to availability.

  • We will do our best to ensure you have the same coach week to week, however due to circumstances outside of our control, we may have to assign a different coach or combine classes as needed.

Any changes that occur are at the managements discretion and could occur without notice.

  • We do not offer trial lessons at this point in time.

  • The Macquarie Ice Rink is not able to redeem any active Kids Vouchers.

  • This is not provided by Macquarie Ice Rink, rather an optional Third Party insurance that can be purchased from the national association, Ice Skating Australia, the creators of the Aussie Skate Program used by Macquarie Ice Rink

Registration covers skaters for insurance as part of the Aussie Skate Program, whether they be lessons or participating in an Aussie Skate Competition.

It also provides free access to the Aussie Skate App which covers all elements of the Aussie Skate Program.
